The font must be something legilible with few pixels such as TomThumb.

The convert command of ImageMagick. A python script can center the text.

The entire Moby Dick can fit in a 88x39 button for the fun.
1) Generate the first GIF button file with
cat 22w.txt | convert -page 88x39+0+0 -background white -fill black -font tom.ttf -pointsize 6 text:- high.gif
2) Set 6 seconds per page: convert high.gif -set delay 600 -coalesce -repage 0x0 -crop 88x31+0+0 +repage good.gif

The GIF is 4.2MB and last 19 hours.
