We had four lawyers, three privacy experts, and two campaigners look at Microsoft's new Service Agreement, and none of our experts could tell if Microsoft plans on using your personal data – including audio, video, chat, and attachments from 130 products, including Office, Skype, Teams, and Xbox – to train its AI models.
Windows 10 EOL will affect 240 million devices.
The problems lasted weeks and it is now solved in one day after being public...
It's amazing how quickly Microsoft can fix things if issues are made public: Yesterday we've reached out to Microsoft Germany along with the press release asking them - again - to fix the issue of tutanota.com emails going to Spam in Outlook. The issue was then fixed within one day (after we had been in direct contact for three weeks without any success)!
To meet the demands of the European Commission's Digital Markets Act—slated to be enforced in March 2024—Microsoft must make its apps easier to uninstall, its default settings easier to change, and its attempts at steering people toward its services easier to avoid.
It includes Bing, default apps, Edge, etc...
Why Skype and Teams seems to be concurrent in the same enterprise...
Microsoft long ago figured out that the secret to succeeding in Enterprise software is making CIOs & CTOs happy, not end users.
Based on a Microsoft Teams vs Slack daily users comparison
🤦♂️
I totally agree with https://sebsauvage.net/links/?LSWKJw
Sure, Microsoft isn't perfect. For instance, there are serious legal and ethical questions about how its subsidiary GitHub is using open source code in its commercialized Copilot AI-based pair-programming service [....]
However, you can find fault with any major company using Linux or open source software.
So? Is it ok if others have faults?
Ok !
Alas, the truly problematic requirement for Windows 11 is that it will create an unbelievable amount of electronic waste because of its arbitrary CPU specs.
So much PCs to be turned as GNU/Linux stations 👍 I will check Ebay.
The situation is even worse when you consider the severe global supply chain problems involving microprocessors. We should be extending the lives of existing machines as much as possible right now, encouraging people to purchase new computers right now is irresponsible.
Microsoft’s decision to deprecate the majority of consumer hardware is irresponsible and unconscionable.
I fully agree with this.
A possible and realistic scenario
